Welcome to Shukr. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a legal agreement between you and Umeed Holdings OÜ. By creating an account or using Shukr, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Who We Are
Shukr is operated by Umeed Holdings OÜ, a private limited company registered in Estonia (registry code 17285395), with its registered office at Ahtri tn 12, Kesklinna linnaosa, Tallinn, Harju maakond 15551, Estonia. Shukr is a product of Barakah Tech Labs ("BTL"), a brand of Umeed Holdings OÜ. Shukr is a Muslim-friendly, privacy-first social media platform.
You can contact us at any time at legal@barakah.tech with questions about these Terms.
2. Beta Service
Shukr is currently offered as a private, invitation-only beta. The app is still under active development, so please keep the following in mind:
- Shukr is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis and may contain bugs, errors, or interruptions.
- Features may be added, changed, or removed at any time, and the beta may be paused or ended without notice.
- Data may be lost, reset, or become temporarily unavailable during the beta. Please keep your own copy of anything important to you, and do not rely on Shukr as the only place your content is stored.
- Feedback is welcome but optional. If you send us ideas, suggestions, or bug reports, we reserve the right to use them freely to improve our products, with no obligation to you, and to share relevant feedback publicly for marketing purposes if needed.
3. Your Account
- Access during the beta is by invitation. We may grant, limit, or withdraw access at our discretion.
- You must be at least 16 years old to use Shukr. Some countries may set a higher age or require a parent's consent — you are responsible for meeting the age requirement that applies where you live.
- Provide accurate information when you register, and keep your login details secure.
- You are responsible for all activity that happens under your account.
- One account per person. Accounts may not be sold or transferred.
Tell us immediately at legal@barakah.tech if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
4. Community Standards
Shukr is built on Islamic values and a commitment to wholesome, respectful interaction. These standards apply to everyone on the platform — including posts, comments, messages, communities, media, and places you share on maps.
What is not allowed
- Sexually explicit or pornographic content of any kind
- Promotion of alcohol, gambling, drugs, or other haram activities
- Violent, threatening, or abusive content
- Hate speech targeting any religion, race, gender, or group
- Spam, scams, phishing, or impersonation
- Content that violates anyone's privacy, such as sharing private photos or someone's location without consent
- Misinformation that could cause real-world harm
- Anything illegal under Estonian or EU law
Acceptable use of the service
You also agree not to misuse Shukr or the systems behind it. In particular, you must not:
- Access the service using bots, scrapers, or other automated means, except where we expressly allow it.
- Collect or harvest information about other users without their consent.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or try to extract our source code, except where the law allows.
- Probe, scan, or test the security of the service, or bypass any security or access controls.
- Interfere with, overload, or disrupt the service, or the servers and networks behind it.
- Upload malware, or use the service to distribute harmful code.
Reporting and enforcement
If you see content you believe is illegal or breaks these standards, you can report it in the app or by emailing legal@barakah.tech. We review reports and may remove content, issue warnings, or suspend accounts. Where we remove your content or restrict your account, we will give you a brief reason where we can, and you can appeal by emailing legal@barakah.tech within 30 days.
5. Your Content
You own the content you create on Shukr. How we handle it depends on whether you keep it private or share it publicly.
Private content
This includes your private posts, memories, and direct messages. You own this content, and by posting it you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store and display it so the app works for you. This licence ends when you delete the content or close your account, and we will delete it — except where we must keep it to comply with the law.
Public and community content
This includes anything you choose to make public — public posts, comments and contributions within communities, and the places or markers you add to shared maps. You still own what you create. But because other people see and rely on this content, and it becomes part of a shared community resource, you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, and distribute it — including after you delete it or close your account. When you close your account, we may keep your public and community contributions, but we will dissociate them from your profile (for example, by anonymising them) where feasible.
You are responsible for making sure your content does not infringe anyone's copyright, privacy, or other rights. If you believe content on Shukr infringes your copyright, email us at legal@barakah.tech with details and we will review it; we may remove infringing content and, where appropriate, restrict accounts that repeatedly infringe.
6. Payments
Some features are offered as paid services, including subscriptions and one-time in-app purchases.
- Payments are currently processed by Polar Payments, our payment processor and merchant of record. We may add or move to other payment methods, including Apple App Store and Google Play in-app billing; purchases made through an app store are also subject to that store's terms.
- Prices are shown in the app, in EUR where applicable, and include VAT where required.
- We may change our fees or introduce new charges from time to time. We will give you reasonable notice of any change, and a price change will never apply to a billing period you have already paid for.
- We do not charge interest. No financial mechanism on our platform involves riba (interest), gharar (excessive uncertainty), or maysir (gambling).
- You may cancel a subscription at any time in the app settings; access continues until the end of the period you have paid for.
- EU consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal for digital services not yet fully performed. Where you ask us to begin a digital purchase immediately, you may lose this right once the service has been fully delivered.
7. Additional Services (including MemoryBox)
From time to time we may offer other Barakah Tech Labs products and services within Shukr, such as MemoryBox. These may be governed by their own additional terms, which we will ask you to read and accept before you use them.
Some of these services — including MemoryBox — encrypt your files and store them permanently on decentralized (blockchain) storage networks operated by independent third parties. Once a file has been uploaded to these networks, it generally cannot be changed or deleted by us or anyone else. Please only upload content you are comfortable storing permanently, and read the relevant service's terms carefully before using it.
8. Our Responsibilities
We provide Shukr on an "as is" and "as available" basis, and — because the app is in beta — we make no warranties that it will be available, uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, or that content will not be lost.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential losses, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the app during the beta. Our total liability to you will not exceed the greater of the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or €100. Nothing in these Terms limits or removes your rights as an EU consumer under applicable law, or our liability for death, personal injury, or fraud where it cannot be excluded.
9. Suspension and Termination
You can ask us to delete your account at any time by emailing legal@barakah.tech, and we will close it for you. We aim to action deletion requests within 30 days.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms or our Community Standards. Where possible, we will warn you first. You can appeal to legal@barakah.tech within 30 days.
10. Intellectual Property
The Shukr and Barakah Tech Labs names, logos, app design, and code are owned by Umeed Holdings OÜ. You may not copy, reproduce, or distribute them without our written permission.
We grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app for its intended purpose, in accordance with these Terms.
11. Privacy
How we handle your personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy at shukr.barakah.tech/privacy. By using Shukr, you confirm that you have read it.
12. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by Estonian law and applicable EU law.
If a dispute arises, please contact us first at legal@barakah.tech, as most issues can be resolved quickly and informally. If we cannot resolve it within 30 days, we both agree to try in good faith to settle it through mediation — by a mediator we agree on, or a recognised mediation body in Estonia — before going to court. Mediation itself is not binding, but any written settlement we both sign is. If mediation does not resolve the dispute, it will be referred to the courts of Tallinn, Estonia; if you are an EU consumer, you may also bring proceedings in your country of residence, and nothing here limits your right to go to court or to use any alternative dispute resolution scheme available to you.
If you use Shukr as a business rather than as a consumer, any dispute not resolved by mediation will instead be finally settled by binding arbitration under the Rules of the Arbitration Court of the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, by a single arbitrator, seated in Tallinn, and conducted in English.
13. Changes to These Terms
We will notify you of significant changes through the app and by email at least 14 days before they take effect. The current version is always available at shukr.barakah.tech/terms. Continued use of the app after the changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
14. General
- Entire agreement — these Terms, together with our Privacy Policy and any additional terms for specific services, are the entire agreement between you and us about Shukr.
- Severability — if any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
- No waiver — if we do not enforce a right or provision, that is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment — you may not transfer or assign these Terms or your account to anyone else. We may transfer our rights and obligations, for example to another company within our group, without reducing your rights.
- Language — these Terms are written in English, and the English version applies even if we provide a translation.
